VAREY- The family of Calum Lawrence Varey sadly announce his peaceful passing, at the age of 74, on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, surrounded by the family he loved. Calum was born on October 17, 1943 in Fort William, Ontario. Calum was a highly respected educator and mentor for 34 years with the Lakehead District School Board. His love for his family, researching his family history, travelling, painting and supporting his grandchildren in their sports and school activities brought joy and happiness to him. Calum is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet Varey (nee Favetta); daughter, Kirsten (Jeff Auld); son, Todd (Nancy); grandson, Jaiden Varey; granddaughter, Jordin Varey; sisters-in-law, Susan Favetta abd Sandra Varey; nephew Scott Varey (Sharon, Kathleen); aunt, Mabel Gourlay; cousin, Doug Gourlay (Ruth); cousin, Lorianne Jackson (Ron, Christine, Colleen); and numerous family members. Calum is predeceased by his father, Lawrence Varey; mother, Peggy Varey (nee MacMillan); brother, Richard Varey; father in law, Varino Favetta; mother in law, Muriel Favetta (nee Tuomi). A sincere thank you to all the nurses of ICU that cared for Calum as well as Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Scott and Dr. Roussos. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street at 11:00 am with Rev. Ciaran Donnelly presiding. Visitation for friends will be for 1 hour prior to service time. Should family and friends so desire and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following: Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, Northern Cancer Fund or a charity of your choice.
