Obituary for Denis Skedgel

Skedgel- Mr. Denis Ralph Skedgel, passed away quietly in his wife's care at home on Wednesday, April 30, 2003. Denis was born in Brixham, Devon, England on June 26, 1924. He was a L.A.C. of the Royal Air Force, during the war. He arrived in Canada and met his wife, they returned to England and resided there for a time before returning to Canada (Thunder Bay) in 1948. Denis was employed with Eatons Metropolitan Life and later with the Chronicle Journal retiring from there after 26 years of service. Denis truly enjoyed playing the organ, sketching, painting and later found the computer to be challenging along with its' games. Denis and Eveline loved their summers spent at Lake Shebandowan and their winters in Texas. Denis will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years Eveline, sons Brian (Marilyn), Gary (Audrey) and Ralph (Donna), grandchildren Christopher (Lynn), Brook Light (Derek), Susan, Shelley Hoier (Dave), Darren, Dennis, Heather, Annalicia and Neil, great grandchildren David, Jaden, Devon and Kiryn, sister Mae Bright (Gerald) of England, niece Janice (David), nephews Paul (Julie), James, Nicholis, Tanya Spencer (Steve), aunt Marg Stapelton, Nan Skedgel and uncle Cyril Budd. He was predeceased by his mother Rose, father Ralph and brothers Ronald and Robert. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3rd when family and friends will gather at Corpus Christi R.C. Church for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. P. M. Stilla V.F.. All services complete in the church. A private family interment will take place at a later date in St. Andrew's R.C. Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street , Friday, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 6:00 p.m.with Rev. Mr. Dan Debano presiding. In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of choice or to the Shebandowan Volunteer Fire Department would be appreciated.
