Obituary for Dorothy Rita Nagotchi

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Miss Dorothy Rita Nagotchi on Saturday July 2, 2016 in her home at Whitesand First Nation. She was born in Ferland, Ontario July 12, 1955. Dorothy grew up in Ferland in her younger years before going to residential school and later moved to Whitesand First Nation where she resided until her passing. Dorothy enjoyed doing puzzles, playing Yahtzee with her friends and blueberry picking. She also enjoyed making bannock and cooking up whatever her family of hunters brought home. She worked at the Armstrong Public School for numerous years as a Teacher’s Aide before taking on the challenge of becoming the first certified Native Language Teacher at A.P.S. She will be missed by all her colleagues and her students.
She will be lovingly remembered by her longtime companion Richard Wanakamik, her children Darby, Tracy, Lance, her adopted children Wayne, Rachael, her sister Louise, and all her godchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren that know her as "Nana" or "Koko".
She was predeceased by her parents Maurice and Sophie Nigidja, her siblings Julie, Rose, Katherine, Hector, and niece Lorraine.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 when family and friends gather for funeral mass at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Snows RC Church Armstrong, ON. Interment will follow at Ferland Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held, Tuesday July 5, 2016 12-1pm in the Chapel of Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court St. also visitation will be held in Whitesand Tuesday evening and Wednesday. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com
