Obituary for Edward "Ted" Holseth

Edward "Ted" Holseth
Edward (Ted) William Holseth passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital – Hospice Unit with his loving family at his side.

Ted was born on March 19th, 1948 in Port Arthur (Brent Park) and lived his entire life in Thunder Bay. He attended Balsam Street Public School, Hillcrest High School and Confederation College. Ted began his working career with Port Arthur Telephone( Thunder Bay Telephone) in 1966; retiring happily at age 51 after 33 years of continuous service.

Ted’s passion in life was his love for music and listening to shortwave radio. Ted was a member of the Northwestern Ontario Senior Citizens Amateur Radio Club (VE3EWH) and he also enjoyed his weekly Tuesday morning breakfast club with the boys at SMSC. Ted was a very warm, reserved and compassionate person with a unique sense of humour and quick wit. His love for life, the Toronto Maple Leafs, travelling, cooking and the great outdoors brought him many close and dear friends throughout his life. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren whom he adored and loved unconditionally to the end. Yard work was never complete without hopping on his riding lawn tractor for the final cut and inspection. Ted also enjoyed repairing & building almost anything in his work shop as well as helping out family and friends when called upon. Enjoying an early retirement, Ted & Patricia cruised the Caribbean Sea out of San Juan and Florida on many occasions as well as Hawaiian Islands. He always enjoyed taking road trips with Patricia across Canada and the USA including numerous shopping trips to Duluth and Minneapolis whenever possible. Any excuse for a road trip was all it took to plan the next adventure.

Ted is survived by his loving wife, best friend and high school sweetheart of 48 ½ years; Patricia (McHale) and 2 daughters Debra (Dave) Gerdevich and Suzanne Delaqua, 5 grandchildren Brandonand Allison Dreschler and Jordan, Jaydan and Jewell Delaqua ( father Jason), step grandchildren Adam & Sara Gerdevich, brother Larry (Betty) Holseth of Brampton, On, sister Patricia (Bert) Strong of Morden, Manitoba, mother-in-law Betty McHale, sister and brother-in-law Nellie and Don DeDura, Rose and Bill Horde, Jimmy McHale Jr. (Rose), Debbie McHale (Geatan), cousin and lifelong friend Kevin Helseth and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving parents Ethel and Howard Holseth, 1998 & 2000, respective father-in-law James McHale (1994), brother-in-law Michael McHale (2006), Nephew Bill Horde Jr. (2007), Godson Adam Mendes (2010) and many dear friends and relatives.

Thank you to all of the wonderful care workers from Bayshore – a special thank you to “William” whose evening visits meant a lot to Ted. Thank you to Wesway for their excellent care at the Court Street Respite Home. Thank you also to the compassionate nurses at the St. Joseph’s Hospice Unit for making Ted’s final days peaceful and comfortable.

A celebration of Ted’s life will be held on April 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Solarium of the Slovak Legion, 804 Atlantic Avenue. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. If friends so desire, donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Sister Margaret Smith Centre or to Wesway. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com

I’m free
Don’t grieve for me,
I’m following the path, God laid for me.

I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all,
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play,
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found my peace at close of day

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, those things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow,
My life was full; I’ve savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief;
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God wants me know; He set me free.
