Obituary for Elva Vaughn Whitney

It is with great sadness that the family of Elva Vaughn Whitney, announce her passing on March 1st at Bethammi Nursing Home. Elva was born in Whitney, New Brunswick to Ross and Lola Hare on April 27, 1921. She came from a large family of five sisters and a brother. Elva had a wonderful childhood surrounded by her immediate family, her grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins. It was there that she married the love of her life Wilson Whitney. After WWII she and Wilson moved to Nipigon and later to Port Arthur where she raised their two children and resided until her death.
Wilson predeceased her on October 1989, after 47 years of marriage. Mom continued on her own, surprising everyone with her independence and spirit. She also became an avid gardener and walker. She was always a super cook and her other interests were her family, friends, St. Paul's United Church and crafting such as knitting and quilting. Elva is survived by her daughter Linda Siegfried (Brian), son Harry (Shelly), grandchildren Amanda, Julie, and Ryan, great grandchildren Andie and Moe, sister Mona Miller (Darrell) Moncton N.B., brother-in-law Herb Dixson Moncton N.B., sisters-in-law Myrtle Baisley (Jackson) Brantford, Gertrude Whitney, Whitney N.B., Hubert and Alma Whitney, Whitney N.B and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband Wilson, sisters Valerie, Glenna, Viva, Betty, and brother Gordon. Family would like to thank the staff of Bethammi 3rd floor for their kindness and wonderful care of Mom for her stay there. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services for Elva Whitney will be held Monday March 7, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Randy Boyd presiding. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Paul's United Church, St. Joseph's Foundation- Bethammi 3rd Floor or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
