Obituary for Gerd Lauzon Mrs.

With heavy hearts the family of Mrs.Gerd (Gaye) Lauzon announce her passing on Monday, June 18th at the Thunder Bay Regional Healt;h Sciences Centre at the age of 82 years. Born in Port Arthur on July 27, 1929, to Helga and Gudmund Eriksen, she attended Prospect Elementary and PACI. While employed with the OPP she met her husband James (Ted) Broughton and moved to Nakina, Nipigon and back to Port Arthur, raising 4 children. Gerd was very involved in every community she lived in with organizations such as the United Church, Castlegreen, Children's Aid Society and many more. She worked in the Eaton's business office for years and later resumed her education, graduating from Confederation College with a Social Services Diploma and a new career with Big Brothers Big Sisters until her retirement. She married John Lauzon in October 1982. Most important to this special lady was her very large and extended family. She was famous with family and friends for her huge chocolate bar bowl - help yourself. She loved to brag about her family. Gerd was predeceased by her parents, Helga and Gudmund Eriksen, brother Roy Eriksen, Ted Broughton, John Lauzon, and grandson, Christopher Broughton. She is survived by her children: Scott Broughton (Bev), Kent Broughton (Judy), Sheryl Furlonger (David), Kathy Chappell (Tim) and step-children Rose-Marie Lauzon, Ed Lauzon and Paulette Shoniski (Rusty). Nanny is also survived by her grandchildren: Jason Broughton (Kathy), Joel Broughton (Kristen), James Broughton, Jocelyn Macklem, Raymond Macklem (Jocelyn), Leif Broughton (Cheryl), James Broughton (Lana-Ray), Matthew Broughton (Crystal), Stacie Furlonger, Cory Furlonger (Sara), Samantha, Conor and Tyler Chappell, Michelle Lauzon, Heather and Curtis Shoniski. Surviving great-grandchildren: Melanie, Annelise, Piper, Mira, Jordan, Steven, Miguel, Lita, Quinn, Chantal, Faith, Christopher and great-great grandchildren: Joey and Riyah. She is also survived by her brother Erik Eriksen (Polly), nieces and nephews, the Lauzons, Joan and Sid Thompson, Linda Hernandez, and many friends including special people at Bethami Nursing home. Funeral services will be held at the Sargent and Son Funeral Home , 21 North Court Street on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Matthew Diegel of Our Savious Lutheran Church presiding . Interment Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sargent Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Confederation College Foundation www.confederationc.on.ca/foundation for a student bursary in Gerd's name or donations to a charity of your choice.
