Obituary for Harold "Hal" Philp

Philp, Harold (Hal) Tremaine. February 16, 1927 to March 1, 2016.
After a brief illness in his 90th year, Hal passed away peacefully at home with family by his side. Born and raised in Toronto, he graduated with a B. Arts from the University of Toronto in 1950. He moved to Port Arthur in 1953 to work as a cost accountant at Abitibi Provincial Papers. On the ski hills of Mount Baldy, he met the love of his life, Barb, to whom he was married 62 years. Hal later became a business teacher at Hammarskjold High School where he spent twenty-five years shaping the lives of students. Hal was an avid hunter, golfer and gardener and enjoyed many years playing snooker at the 55+. The most precious fruits of his garden were his children and grandchildren which he lovingly cultivated. Along with Barb, he is survived by his children, Maureen (Alf), Lorraine, Donald (Judy), Jamie, and D. Tremaine, grandchildren Michael (Shasta), Andrew, Chris (Marissa), Alistair, Stephanie and Alexandra, his great-grandson Leo, and by his sister Marilyn (Gerhart). A reception for friends and relatives in honour of Hal will be held on Saturday, March 26th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm in the Sargent Family Reception Centre, 21 N. Court Street with words of tribute being offered at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hal Philp Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hammarskjold High School for a deserving student pursuing post-secondary business studies or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
