Obituary for Helen Zubec

Helen Zubec (Duchminski) passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor on October 25, 2013 with her family by her side. Helen was raised on a farm in western Manitoba and moved to Port Arthur to seek employment during the depression. She worked as a cook at various hotels and restaurants. She married Paul Zubec on October 17, 1935, and settled in Port Arthur to raise her family. Her home was a place that was always open to relatives and friends. She was admired for her cooking talents, and in her younger years made many wedding and anniversary cakes. She was most famous for her perogies and cabbage rolls. She was predeceased by husband Paul (1977) and daughter Evelyn (1980). She is survived by son, Paul Jr. (Janet) Winnipeg, daughter, Betty Baird (Roland), grandsons, John Paul (Elizabeth), Ottawa, Matthew (Glynis), Winnipeg, great grand children, Payton, Ella, Ainslie and Lukas. She is also survived by brother, Michael (Mary), Sudbury, sisters: Ann, Winnipeg, Stella, St. Catherine’s, Sylvia, Thunder Bay. Helen was a parishioner of St. Andrews R.C Church and was a member of the CWL for nearly 60 years. . For the past three years she resided at Roseview Manor. Helen’s family sincerely thanks Bill and Linda Syroid and "Alana" for their many visits to Roseview Manor to visit mom and a special thank you to Shirley and Fred Johnson and Ed Williamson for their kindness over the many years. Finally, to the dedicated staff at Roseview Manor for going above and beyond in helping Mom in her failing years. "Thank You" for your sincere kind words to our mom, your gentle ways, prayers, hugs and kisses. Mom couldn’t have had better care during a very difficult time. Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s RC Church on Wednesday, October 30th 2013, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Antoni Fujarczuk celebrating. Private interment will take place at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Special Project and Building Fund.
