GRANT- Henry William (Hank) Grant passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor on October 12, 2012. Hank was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Rita, in March 2009. Together they raised seven children of whom they were very proud: Michael (Anne-Marie), Christine (Bill Fleming), Catherine (Roderick McHugh), Barbara (John Trevisanutto), Brenda (Harvey Walsh), Timothy, Maj.-General (retired) (Sharon), Patrick, Lt.-Colonel (retired) (Lindsey). 22 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and his dear sister-in-law Catherine Wallace also survive Hank. One sister, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter predeceased him. Hank was born in Copper Cliff, Ontario and raised in several northern Ontario towns until his family settled in Port Arthur in late 1939. After working in the shipyard, Hank enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, was subsequently commissioned and served the duration of WWII in England maintaining the radar network. After the war, Hank studied piano tuning in Chicago, and then returned to Port Arthur to open his own business. He met and married Rita Wallace in 1948. Complications from a wartime injury led him to re-enlist in the Air Force in 1949. He served in telecommunications and radar at bases across Canada until he retired in 1969. He then worked for Laurentian University, Loyalist College, the Quinte School Board and the Canadian Ice Patrol as an electronics and audio-visual equipment specialist until 1982. In 1999, Hank and Rita returned to Thunder Bay. A Fourth-Degree Knight, Hank was a charter member of the Father Baxter Chapter, Knights of Columbus; he rejoined the chapter on his return to Thunder Bay. He had a deep and abiding faith, attending daily mass as long as his health permitted. He had a passion for gardening and was an active supporter of charities for children and the poor. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 when family and friends will gather in St. Margaret's R.C.
