Obituary for John Pentland "Jack" Geddes

JOHN (JACK) GEDDES

Jack Geddes passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences
Centre on April 7 2014 following a brief illness. Jack was born on March 7th 1931 and raised in Port Arthur. Upon leaving high school he was employed at Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co. for several years. In 1961 he joined Air Canada as a Passenger Agent and retired in 1990 as Manager Flight and Customer Service. He so enjoyed his years working at Air Canada with all the wonderful staff he had the honour to work with. Over the years Jack was involved with several community organizations such as Port Arthur Jaycees, Volunteer Pool Recreation Centre, Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre and the Christmas Cheer Fund. Jack loved his sports especially hockey and baseball. He spent many hours serving on the executive of Port Arthur Continentals Little League, Thunder Bay Junior Baseball League and the Thunder Bay Kings Hockey Organization. After retirement he spent several years managing hockey teams on which his son Derek coached. He was very proud of managing many successful Thunder Bay Kings hockey teams. He was so pleased to see so many of these young men become successful in their hockey careers and in life. Jack was always willing to lend a hand but his home and family were number one in his life.

Jack is survived by his loving wife and best friend Carol sharing 53 years of happy and healthy life together, his devoted son Derek and daughter-in-law Debbie, three loving and caring grandchildren Nathan, Carly and Erica who were his pride and joy. They will truly miss Papa cheering them on at their sporting events. Jack is also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Geddes, Dorene Hatch, Doris Zarubin, brothers-in-law Jack Kelso, Donald, Dwayne (Bev) Glen (Marilyn) and Allan (Hilda) Barsness and by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Catherine, brothers William and
Freeburn and sister Peggy Kelso, sisters-in-law Agnes Geddes and Evelyn Riley
and nephew John (Butch) Geddes.

As per Jack's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of
