Obituary for June Sharon Montgomery

MONTGOMERY- The children of June Sharon Mongtomery are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beautiful mother on June 7, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospice. June was born in Beardmore and lived her full life in the Lakehead. She was a true Northerner and very proud of her Irish/Native roots. She was educated locally and started her career in the public sector in the 1960's at the L.P.H. She spent her most memorable/happiest times at the Northwest Regional Centre, where she gathered a circle of spectacular friends who still loved her today. June enlarged that circle, so very special to her, at the Office of the Registrar General. She retired a few years ago and was a very fun co-worker and union sister. She always had a joke, and a smile that could light up the darkest room on the stormiest night. She never, ever stopped learning, loving and caring about people and animals. She volunteered her incredible singing voice and guitar to virtually every facility in town. She especially loved singing at the correctional facility and for the little kids a C.A.S. She played anywhere that cheer was needed. The seniors really loved her and she always played songs that she knew would bring them joy and beautiful memories. June loved blueberry picking in Dorion with her buddy Linda Hoard. June was responsible for the two of them getting lost numerous times. She loved music, children, laughter, her guitar, and her Oldsmobile. Her greatest joy came from her children and sharing in the lives of Sage and Alexander Laliberte and their mother Gloria. June was so unique and her beauty and vivaciousness was astounding. She had class. She was a friend to all and there were no strangers in June's life. She is survived by her sons Charles and Joseph, daughter Julie Lynn, mother Flora, brothers: Ken Dennis, Roy and Patrick Holt and Gilbert Deschamps; and longtime friend and love Nick Van Eden. Missing her dearly is her feline friend Jethro "My Boy". June was predeceased by her very special friend Pam Kohlin in 1999, her cousin Brian Laliberte, her band mate and friend Mona Niemenen and the father of her children Joe Major. Special thanks to Dave Wesley, Nick Van Eden, Linda Hoard, Gloria Laliberte and Donna Ribbotto who travelled this journey with June. Your care and compassion will forever be remembered. To Cheryl and Jordan Mack and the Ostenrud cousins, you are all so beautiful and "Auntie Junebug" loves you. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of 4N at S. Joe's for your compassion and care and especially to Sherry and Teresa who looked after June as if she were their own mother. Please join us in celebrating the memorable life of "Junebug" Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. in Epiphany Lutheran Church, 499 Dewe Avenue. A jam session for June in the church hall will follow the prayers. As June never, ever turned down a stray, Donations to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. "Till we sing again together in Paradise." We love you Mom forever
