Obituary for Lorne Alexander Geddes

Lorne Alexander Geddes, age 81 years of Roseview Manor passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Lorne was born on September 22, 1934 in Port Arthur and was a lifetime resident of Thunder Bay. He was well known and respected in the plumbing and heating business eventually retiring from Westburne Industries in 1998. He met Joanne Hayduk at a church curling league, married in 1962, and together they raised their four children.
Lorne was a dedicated wordsmith who enjoyed puns and introducing his children to a "word of the day", instilling in them a love of language and proper grammar. He was especially fond of card and board games including bridge, cribbage, chess, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, and Yahtzee.
He and Joanne were avid sports viewers and Lorne especially enjoyed Sunday football and cheering for his beloved Blue Jays. When younger he enjoyed weekend camping trips to Sibley Provincial Park and teaching his kids the value of nature and conservation. Both parents encouraged all siblings to appreciate and participate in the arts and it was not uncommon to see Maryanne drawing, Kathryn playing the piano, John sounding his clarinet and Paul rousing the neighbourhood with his Scottish bagpipes.
He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his children: Kathryn (Steve) Poling, Maryanne Geddes, John (Irena) Geddes, and Paul (Karen) Geddes; grandchildren: Justin, Ryan, Michael, Joshua, Megan, Gordon and Eva; as well as by nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Joanne, parents William and Ethel, and brothers Donald and Robert Geddes. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the St. Joseph's Foundation would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding medical care he has received throughout his life notably at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Care Group. Thanks also to the staff at Roseview Manor who made his last days comfortable and dignified.
