Maria Giuseppina “Pina” Valente, 89 years of Thunder Bay passed away Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 at her residence. Born in Bianchi, Cosenza Italy on June 27, 1928, she immigrated to Canada in 1953 to join her husband Valeriano. Pina and Valeriano enjoyed 64 years of matrimony and were blessed with three children; Bruno, Frank, and Mary who they cherished unreservedly. Pina was an accomplished seamstress in her younger years and was employed in that capacity at the Avila Centre for a time. She created many beautiful dresses for family and friends over the years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, making preserves, sausages and spaghetti sauce with her children and family. She was an amazing cook and took great pleasure in preparing many marvelous meals for her loved ones. A longtime member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, the C.W.L, and the Ladies of the Italian Hall.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Valeriano, her son Bruno (Rose), son Frank (Connie) and daughter Mary (Steve), by her cherished grandchildren Daniel, Olivia, Mikayla, Vanessa, and Amanda. Also, lovingly remembered by her sisters Felicia, Rosina, and Lidia and their respective families together with the numerous nieces and nephews of the Valente, Fuoco, Mancuso, Scozzafave, Mangiardi,and Lacaria families.

She was predeceased by her parents Francesco and Antonietta Fuoco, by her brother Giacomo Fuoco, nephew Franco, brothers-in-law Santo, Luigi, Bruno, Nicola, Antonio, Giuseppe, sisters-in-law Eliza, Angelina, Caterina, and Rosa.

The family of the late Maria Giuseppina “Pina” Valente would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the professionalism of the first responders, paramedics, members of the Thunder Bay Fire Department and members of the Thunder Bay Police Service for all of their efforts on November 21st, 2017.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Maria Giuseppina (Pina) Valente will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 when family and friends will gather at St. Anthony’s R.C Church for the funeral mass commencing at 11:00am. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at St. Anthony’s R.C Church on Monday, November 27th 2017 between 5:00pm and 7:00pm with the vigil prayers to follow commencing at 7:00pm. Should friends so desire, donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation or the charity of your choice.
