The family of Marjorie Irene Hawkins (Hunter) sadly announce her passing on October 4, 2016. Born November 5, 1918 to George and Catharine (Kate) Hunter, the fourth child of a family of six. Marjorie left school, when her father became ill, to help out at the family Grocery Store- Hunter's Grocery. She married Leonard Hawkins in 1959 and started her family. Marjorie was a very practical woman who was content with what she had. She was very much about what you need, not want, and was one of the pioneers of reuse, reduce, and recycle. Growing up, most of what we had was made from something we used to have. Things were repaired not replaced. Marjorie loved to knit, crochet, read, do crossword and jigsaw puzzles- and able to do more than one of these hobbies at the same time. We always had hand-made mitts, hats and slippers. Up until just recently she was still working around her yard, cleaning up leaves and tending to flower gardens. Marjorie is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Gerry LeGros; step-daughter, Karen Toribio (Arizona). Grandchildren: Andy LeGros (Kayla); Dan LeGros (Sammi); Michelle LeGros (Matt). Great-Grandchildren: Hudson and Jake LeGros. Sister-in-law, Dorothy Hunter. Nephews and Nieces: Janice, Jeff, Jim, John, Cathy. Predeceased by: Husband, Len Hawkins 1984; Son-in-law, Jay Toribio; Parents, George and Kate Hunter; Siblings: Catherine Hunter and husband Morris "Fitz" Fitzgerald, George Hunter, Walter Hunter and wife Jean, Ruth Hunter, Jack Hunter and wife Mary. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for their care and concern. A special thanks to Marjorie's Shipley St. neighbours who have kept an eye on her and helped her out with day-to-day tasks over all these years. You were a big part of her being able to live in her own home for so long.
As per Marjorie's wishes cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery. The family would like to invite friends to an open house at 488 Morse Street on Friday, October 7th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm to share their stories and memories of Marjorie.
