Obituary for Mary Anne Catherine Butler

Mary Anne Catherine Butler
Maryanne Catherine Butler, of Ottawa,Ontario, died suddenly at home on Friday,August 25, 2017.She was 67. Mary was born on March 18,1950 in Port Arthur, Ontario to Edward and Phyllis Butler. She attended St. James Public school, Hillcrest High school and Carleton University. Mary met the love of her life Kirby Gloin when they worked together at Cadham Hayes in Ottawa and were married in 1984. They spent 31 interesting and wonderful years together before Kirby's death in 2015. A unique, caring and generous soul, Mary had a kind and gentle spirit. She was a lifelong lover of the arts and an avid art collector, but was especially proud of her collection of crocs. Mary enjoyed fine things such as expensive jewelry, pottery and clothing but was not the best at picking wardrobe sizes. She tended to like things fitting on the large side. Anyone that knew Mary knew she was never early for anything, ever! Mary loved to attend the theatre with her sister Wendy and travel was a big part of her life. She made many great memories at destinations such as Cape Cod, New York, Florida, Quebec, Barbados and the camp at Mackenzie beach. Mary loved to play and participate in many sports, but especially loved tennis and Roger Federer. Yoga was also a passion of Mary's and she loved practicing its disciplines with many of her like minded friends in Ottawa. She had recently taken up sailing and had hoped to sail the great lakes in her new sail boat, but alas that dream was not meant to be. Mary had many friends and will be greatly missed, especially by her dog and constant companion Leila. Mary is survived by her brothers Ted (Barb), David (Pam), Ronald (Josie), Murray (Sondra),and sister Lynne Butler. Mary had numerous nieces and nephews and loved them dearly. She really enjoyed following their misadventures via social media and loved to text them. She was the emoji queen! Aunt to Tim, Bruce,Tricia,Ryan,Max,Thomas,Dylan,Conner, Aaron,Amber,Bradie,Noah, Ashley,Charlotte,Alex,Dylan,Brennan, Raegan and Ehren. Mary was predeceased by her husband Kirby, her parents Edward and Phyllis, sister Wendy Jones, and brother in law Paddy Jones. We would like to thank all of Mary's friends who selflessly helped her when she needed it most. She loved you all. Thank You. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Rev. George Porter presiding. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the Ontario Humane Society would be appreciate. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
