Obituary for Mary Christiana Heska

HESKA, Mary Christiana Passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord with her loving family at her side, on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Bethammi Nursing Home, Thunder Bay, at age 104. Born January 11, 1908 in Fort William, she was raised on a farm in East Pearson built by her Norwegian immigrant parents Lars and Klara Olsen. A lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, she resided on John St. Rd for over 60 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband John (1982). Loving mother of Bill Heska (Muriel) of Fonthill, Grace Shurget (Ken), and caring “second Mom” of Heather (Randy) Stanton (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia), Nana of Sarah (Lee) Riley, Heather (Peter) Lacoursiere, Beth Heska, David (Karen) Heska, Ryan (Kelsey) Heska and Christopher Stanton, and great Nana of Aliyah and Camden Riley, Samuel Lacoursiere, Rachel Heska. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended families. Predeceased by siblings Ingrid Olsen, Harriet Olsen, Alfred Olsen, Borghild (Bea) Coulson, Florence Norman, Gertrude (Gertie) Docking and Edward Olsen (infancy). Formerly active in church (First Baptist), Bible camp (Dorion) and missions ministries. She loved teaching children about the Lord, cooking, gardening, camping, and travelling to visit family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in Grace Evangelical Free Church, 289 N. Court Street. Visitation for friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
