Obituary for Miss Janet Slivinski

Slivinski- Miss Janet Slivinski, age 78 years a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away on May 20, 2012 in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Janet was born on January 17, 1934 in Port Arthur, Ontario and was the daughter of Albert and Anne Slivinski.. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1955. Janet attended one year at the University of Toronto and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Lakehead University in 1967. Over her thirty-four years of employment at St. Joseph’s Hospital, she held the position of head-nurse, taught at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, worked as a Supervisor and served as Director of Nursing. Janet excelled in all these areas and was respected and admired by all who knew her. In her younger years, Janet loved to travel to Jamaica with close friends Catherine Wallace and Rona Lampart (Kellaway) , Watching her Toronto sports teams was one of her favorite pastimes, the Toronto Maple Leafs had one of the most faithful fans for sure. Her other hobbies included reading, knitting, watching all sports and summer vacations spent at Shebandowan Lake with her family. Janet continued her nursing skills when her Mother’s health began to decline. For the past five and a half years, she met many new friends and staff at her Chartwell home, where she was treated with respect, dignity and understanding. Janet will be lovingly remembered by her younger brother Pat (Bernice), Trish, Rayden and Griffin, Pat Jr. Jessy and Sarah, Rob (Jill), Ava, Kaleigh, and Jackson, Trina, sister-in-law Yvonne De Gagne (Denis), A J and Mary Jo, Bernie Joe (Jim) Abby and Samuel, cousins Steve Kovanchak (Nicole) and family, Terry Kovanchak and Linda and Kathy. Predeceased by her grandparents Ann and Harry Woroski and Helen and Emil Slivinski, her parents Anne and Albert Slivinski and big brother Ab, uncle John Woroski, cousin Wayne Woroski and aunt Helen Woroski. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012 when family and friends will gather at Corpus Christi R.C. Church for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk. Interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 27th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm with a Vigil Service beginning at 3:30 p.m.in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street. As expressions of sympathy the family respectfully request memorials to St. Joseph’s Nursing Alumni Bursary at Lakehead University or to St. Joseph's Foundation.
