Obituary for Rita Gladys Havard Mrs.

HAVARD- Mrs. Rita Gladys Havard (nee Styles), 94 years young, a resident of Dawson Court and formerly of Robinson Drive passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Born in Birmingham, England, Rita emigrated to Canada in 1976 to help care for her brother Desmond and establish a relationship with her family here. Rita was well known in England for her knitting and crocheting, winning many awards and she enjoyed her employment with the local post office in Abergavenny, Wales. In Thunder Bay, she quickly became known as "Auntie Rita" and all who knew her delighted in her English accent and phrases. Babysitting the neighbourhood children provided her with much gratification, love, memories and long lasting relationships. Knitting, crocheting and toasting her knees by the fire at the family camp on Island Lake were her favourite pass times. She was predeceased by her husband Stan in 1971, brother; Desmond and sister Marjory. She will be lovingly remembered by her nephew, nieces and her extended family in Thunder Bay, across Canada and in the U.S.A., as well by her special neighbours. She also leaves behind family and friends in the U.K. whom she missed dearly. A big heartfelt "Thank You" goes to all the staff of 1 North Dawson Court for their exceptional care. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Fr. Chris Harper presiding. All services are complete in the chapel and interment will take place in Wales at a later date. Should friends desire memorial donations to the Salvation Army or the Children's Wish Foundation would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
