Obituary for Ross Pelky

Ross Earnest Pelky died peacefully on September 13, 2012 at Saint Joseph's Hospice, surrounded by family members. His loving wife of 47 years, Patricia will miss him dearly. He was born May 6, 1926 in Romney Township, Kent County. The eldest of eleven children, he was the son of the late Ernest and Rose Pelky. Ross is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughter Susan Pelky of Toronto, his stepsons Gordon (Janice) Paul and Bill (Christine) Paul of Thunder Bay, and his brothers Bill, Art,and Earl. He was predeceased by his brothers Bert, Floyd, Jerry, Joe, and Richard, and his sisters Evelyn Johnson and Margaret Fliss. In his early years Ross was employed as a heavy equipment operator at the Caramat woodlands operations of American Can limited. Following that he worked for many years at the Abitibi Provincial Paper mill in Thunder Bay, retiring in 1991. An accomplished woodworker, Ross produced many unique items which he generously donated to be raffled off by various local fundraising campaigns. He was also an avid gardener, always happy to supply friends and neighbours with copious amounts of fresh vegetables. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 18, at the Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 North Court Street. Following that a reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 5, 229 Van Norman Street. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 17 in the Sargent & Son Chapel. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Branch #5 Legion Building fund or to the charity of their choice. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
