Obituary for Roy Daryl Larson

Roy Daryl Larson
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Larson on December 18th, at TBRHSC with his family at his side, following a sudden illness. Roy was born on October 3rd 1951 in Norman, Ontario to Evert & Doris Larson. In 1963 he moved to Port Arthur with his family and attended Algonquin St. School, Hammarskjold High school and Lakehead University.

He left university to assist his dad with their locksmithing business and went on to become owner/operator of Servo-Lock Locksmithing. Following that venture, Roy became an instructor for Young Drivers of Canada and remained teaching until his four children learned to drive. Most recently, and for the past 12 years, he has been working for his brother Rene at Rene Larson Law Office.

Roy was an avid New York Yankees fan and would always be seen sporting a Yankee hat and in 2001, achieved one of his life long dreams as he went to the house that Ruth built as part of one of the many Larson family road trips. He was very community minded, serving on the board of Crime Stoppers, Port Arthur Curling Club, Canada Games baseball venue, Cub/scout leader, Heart to Heart Bonspiel committee and belonged to the Lakehead Rotary club. He was an avid baseball player, playing junior fastball and slow pitch (Lakehead Lobbers). He would often regale his children with stories of the infamous Servo-Lock No Stars. He coached baseball (Port Arthur Continentals) and coached the winning 1982 National Pony League champions in Calgary, Alberta along with Dick Waddington. He continued to coach/assist until his son Paul was finished playing baseball. He enjoyed curling (men's and mixed), bowling (5 and 10 pin), beating his boys at golf and following trips to down under, followed Aussie football. Most recently he had tried his hand at Square dancing and he and Marianne were members of the Amethyst Squares. He was a great cribbage and euchre player and had daily games with Marianne - there is no real account of who had won the most games. Roy and Marianne loved to travel and for the past few years in winter, were cruising in the Carribbean.

Roy is survived by his wife Marianne with whom he recently celebrated 31 years of marriage. Also surviving are his children, Ericka (Zachary) Reszitnyk and their children June and Colton, Paul (Teal), Erik, and Sheena (Justin), his brother Rene (Leslie), sister Heather (Andy), brother-in-law Carl Syrja and various, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends. Roy will be sadly missed as well, by our special cousins, Valerie (Jerry), Brian (Pam) & Aussie cousins Alan, Helen, Ken and Maria and their families. Roy was predeceased by his parents Doris and Evert, sister Colleen Syria and good
friend Rod Smith.

A special thanks goes to the EMS team, TBRHSC, emergency dept. and Intensive Care unit team: As well as the following physicians: Dr. A. Exley, Dr. Z. Ahmed, & Dr. S. McCluskey. Your assistance and guidance allowed us time with Roy as we prepared for his gentle passing to be with those who had gone on before him.

Roy (best man, husband, father, grandfather, friend extraordinaire), we will miss you and your sense of humour every day. You would do anything for your family/friends as you said on Saturday to Sheena, that is just just what dad's do. You could always make us laugh and never wanted to see us upset. You were undeniably the best of the best.

As our little granddaughter June buggy just said, when she wants to talk to Grandpa now she will just have to talk a little louder. We will love you forever.

Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 am in St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church (Red River Road at Rockwood Ave) with Rev. Gordon Holroyd officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michaels and all Angels church, the St. Joseph's Foundation-Hospice Unit or a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
