Obituary for Umberto Bozzo

Umberto Bozzo
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Umberto Bozzo, age 88 years, at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, May 8, 2016. Umberto was born in Donnici Superiore, Cosenza, Italy on August 28, 1927, one of the 8 children of Raffaele and Marietta Bozzo. It was living in Italy where he met Agata, and he and the love of his life were married in June of 1950. With dreams of making a better life for his family, Umberto immigrated to Canada in 1951. Upon arriving in Port Arthur he began working with Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, from where he retired as a Car Shed Foreman. He was joined in Port Arthur by his wife and first son Ralph in 1953. Together, Agata and Umberto raised 6 children until her passing in 1986. Before his health wouldn’t allow it, Umberto was an active member of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, The Holy Name Society, The Seniors Club and the Italian Society of Port Arthur. As an amateur barber he enjoyed cutting hair for his family and friends. Umberto loved gardening, grafting, especially his prized plum trees, and making wine, sausages and olives with family and friends. It seemed that he could fix just about anything and many family and friends were the beneficiaries of his generosity. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his children: Ralph (Rowena), Lenore Milani, Gerry (Patty), Sandra (Dean) Harper, Silvana (Luccio) Rizzo, and Roy (Diane); grandchildren: Michelle, Laura, Lucas, Serena, Adrian, Jamie and Ryan; brother Franco in Italy as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Sault Ste. Marie, Hamilton and Italy. Umberto is also survived by wife Giuseppina, her children Roy (Toni) Scarcello and Alberico (Annette) Scarcello and their families. He was predeceased by his loving wife Agata, his parents and 6 sisters. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Umberto Bozzo will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Luigi Filippini of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church presiding. Visitation for friends will be for 1 hour prior to the service. A private interment will take place at St. Andrew’s R.C. Cemetery immediately following the service in the chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Anthony’s R.C. Church would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
