Obituary for Victoria Kuschak

VICTORIA ELIZABETH KUSCHAK Victoria Kuschak passed away on September 11th in St. Joseph's Hospice with her sons Clay and Clint by her side. She was born in Ituna, Saskatchewan on March 12, 1926 to Julia and William Misiurski and grew up on the family farm. Victoria will be fondly remembered by sons Clint (Barbara) and Clay, and only grandson Jason (Nicole). She is also survived by her sisters Molly and Tena in Thunder Bay, brothers Leonard and Frank in Saskatchewan, and brother Edward in Toronto. She was predeceased by her mother Julia and father William and younger brother Lorne. Victoria married John Kuschak in 1945 but after that marriage ended some 40 years ago, she set up her new home in Current River and provided for herself by working at Zellers and in the kitchens of Dawson Court Home for the Aged. She was a proficient seamstress and ardent gardener in better times. She also pursued crafts such as cake decorating, fabric arts, and ceramics....but her passion was the preparation of feasts for family and friends. Her perogies were a big hit at family gatherings. Victoria enjoyed her retirement years and loved to be with her best friends and family whenever possible. She will be missed. Victoria fought off the ravages of ovarian cancer for the better part of two years and managed to be at home for much of that time. She would have wanted to acknowledge the care she received from health care providers at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, the Thunder Bay Cancer Clinic, St. Joseph's Hospice, and nurses from Bayshore. Her family thanks in particular Dr. Sicheri and Dr. Miller. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 17th, 2012 when family and friends gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Loretto R.C. Church, 290 Grenville Avenue, celebrated by Rev. Rey Sorgon O.S.A. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 16th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with a Vigil Service at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers or as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in memory of Victoria to Our Lady of Loretto Elevator Fund or to a charity of choice.
