Obituary for William Meakin

MEAKIN- Mr. William H. Meakin died April 1, 2012 at the age of 98 years. Born in 1914 in England he came to Canada at the age of 16years. In 1937 he married Edith Kivisto and they settled in Geraldton where he worked in the mines. When World War II started he enlisted in the Air Force where he served in England as a night fighter pilot. He returned home in 1945 as a flight lieutenant. After the war they settled in Thunder Bay and he worked in mining exploration until he retired. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Joan, his wife Edith and a son-in-law Ralph Whistle. He is survived by his sister Beryl Harrison (Frank), his daughter Gail Whistle, his son Bill Meakin (JoAnn), 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and England. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Ven. Mark S. Conliffe presiding.
