Obituary for William Henry "Bill" Symington

William Henry "Bill"  Symington
Mr. William Henry Symington, age 95 years passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 02, 2016 at the Bethammi Nursing Home.

Bill was born July 22, 1921 in North Vancouver, British Columbia to parents George and Elizabeth Symington. Bill spent his childhood in Ocean Falls, then moved to Port Arthur with his father after the passing of his mother. Bill enlisted with the Canadian Army and was a Corporal with the 18th Armoured Car Regiment 12 Manitoba Dragoons C.A.C. He saw action in the European Operation and was discharged in March 1946.

Bill worked at Shaw Bakery for many years, and then ventured onto working at the Thunder Bay District Jail for 21 years. After retirement, Bill and his wife Valerie of 61 wonderful years would travel to many different countries, enjoyed many rounds of golf and spent their winters in Texas. Bill took great pride in his family, especially his grandchildren.

William will be lovingly missed by his wife Valerie, his daughters Anne and Carolyn Symington (Gerald Kukko) of Ottawa, his grandchildren Madelaine and Jared. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Valerie Lynne (3.5 years old), brothers James and Gibson Symington.

A memorial service for William will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Society or to the 55+ Centre of Thunder Bay. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com
