Obituary for Zlatan "Mike" Sabo

Zlatan "Mike" Sabo
SABO, ZLATAN (MIKE)
July 23, 1960 – May 7, 2018

With extreme sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Zlatan (Mike) Sabo at TBRHSC on Monday May 7, 2018 at the age of 57 years. He was the third child born to Antun and Pavica Sabo on July 23, 1960 in Regina, Sask. His family came to Port Arthur in 1962 settling on Ontario Street. He attended Cornwall School and Hammarskjold High.

Zlatan and Bev met years before they finally began dating in 1986 and eventually married in February 1991. This began their new life adventure with their loving blended family. Family was so important to Zlatan. He was extremely proud of his wife, his children and grandchildren. He was happiest spending time together creating memories doing family baseball games, country bike rides, family night board games, movie night marathons, weekend getaways and Sunday brunch gatherings at grandma’s where food was delicious and plentiful. Zlatan had many favourite dishes and his first stop was always the stove to check out the menu.

Zlatan’s career began with Sask Pool elevators after high school. He returned to school and entered the AMET program at Confederation College, graduating in 1991. A career as Methods Analyst started with Can Car/Bombardier after graduation.

He was an amazing kind hearted man with an enormous passion to his faith. Zlatan proudly became a born again Christian at 41. His trust in God gave him such joy and he wished this same peace for everyone. He took every opportunity to worship with his church family and loved to participate doing pancake breakfasts, city street ministry, mentoring youth groups and was overjoyed with his missionary work at an African orphanage. He obtained his Commissioned Pastoral Diploma in 2018.

Zlatan’s journey with his cancer diagnosis began in 2013. The illness didn’t stop him from persevering his dreams, his faith or his family. He felt blessed and continued forward always taking care of others first.

He will be forever loved and deeply missed by all his family; wife Bev, children Andy (Corinna), Cortney (Doug), Sara (Ryan), Jenny (Gabriel), Antun (Telsey), his precious grandchildren Morgan, Breanne, Bradley, Carter, Mason, Daylan, Rainy, Hope, Paige and expected grandbaby Sabo (due June) plus 4 great grandchildren. His siblings, Mark, Evo, Mary (Benny), nephew Kyle and mother-in-law Malvina. Several other family members in B.C., Croatia and Australia.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 15th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at THE SUMMIT CHURCH, 515 Syndicate Ave. N with Pastor Keith Bunn presiding.

Should friends so desire, donations welcomed in memory of Zlatan (Mike) Sabo can be made to Life Water Canada [www.lifewater.ca]. Arrangements are in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
