Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario she was the youngest of four daughters born to Alfred Schneider Gofton and Charlotte Elizabeth Gofton. Annette Augustine was an Honours Graduate of the Ontario College of Art, 1951.She married her high school sweetheart Dr. John Ross Augustine in June, 1952 two days after he graduated from medical school. Together they shared his post graduate years in Toronto and then settled in Fort William (as it was then known).

Annette Gofton was involved in community activities all of her life. At 16 years of age she was elected President of the Canadian Girls In Training (C.G.I.T.) for Ontario and undertook speaking engagements throughout the province. After moving to what is now Thunder Bay Annette Augustine was involved in various capacities with organizations in the city including the Women's Auxiliary of Westmount Hospital, The Florence Booth Home, Thunder Bay Salvation Army, Friends of Lakehead University Library, Lakehead Chapter of the Ontario Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, Lakehead Region Conservation Authority, Old Fort William Citizens Advisory Committee, Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee City of Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society, Thunder Bay National Exhibition Centre and Centre for Indian Art (now known as the Thunder Bay Art Gallery), Lakehead Conservation Foundation, Art Gallery of Ontario, Board of Governors of Lakehead University, Municipal Arts and Heritage Policy Committee City of Thunder Bay, Committee of Art in Public Places City of Thunder Bay, Lakehead University Co-Chair of "Vision Campaign" to furnish and equip the Music and Visual Arts Building (now known as the William Buset Building).

Annette Augustine was, together with John Augustine, made an Honourary President of the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society and an Honourary President of the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. She was made a "Fellow of the University" of Lakehead University and was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada on October 21, 1999 in recognition of her lifetime of volunteer work.

Annette Augustine was a devoted wife to John Augustine, her husband of 62 years who predeceased her in 2014. She is mourned by her sons, David (Allison) of Calgary and Philip (Efharis) of Ottawa and her grandchildren, Alexandra and John-Philip.

Annette Augustine was an intelligent and energetic person who was demanding of herself. She set and maintained the highest standards for herself and gave extensively of herself for causes in which she believed. She enjoyed creating beauty and was an intelligent and knowledgeable collector of beautiful art. Annette enjoyed the lifelong friendship of her 3 sisters (she is survived by her sister Marion Fry of Gravenhurst) and her many friends.
Annette was loved by her family and friends who will cherish her memory.

The family would like to thank Donald Hutchinson and the nurses for their care and compassion towards Annette’s medical needs. The family would especially like to thank the health care providers at the St. Joseph’s Hospice for their excellent care in Annette’s final days.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 207 Brodie St S presided by Rev. Joyce Yanishewski. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s Canada, St. Joseph’s Hospice and Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society would be greatly appreciated.
