Obituary for Edith Anne Sproule

Edith Anne Sproule

Sproule

Edith Anne Sproule passed away from this life surrounded by love and support from her family on Monday, March 28, 2016. She was 69.

Edith was born in Port Arthur on December 9, 1946 to Bob and Pearl Foster. She was the second of 4 children. Edith had a fun filled childhood in a time where a host of neighbourhood children roamed free creating their own games of imagination. After attending Lakeview High School, Edith trained to be a lab technologist at McKellar Hospital. She married her high school sweetheart, and love of her life, George. Together they moved to Burlington, where they raised their 2 sons, Colin and Neil. Edith, George and the boys enjoyed a wonderful life filled with hiking, camping, fishing, and cross country skiing in the great outdoors. Edith worked in the lab at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital where she had her loving work family and established friendships that lasted the rest of her life. She eventually became the head of the chemistry department in the hospital lab and worked there until she retired. The family moved back to Thunder Bay in 1999 and she enjoyed a quiet retirement tending to her flower gardens, volunteering for the Cancer Society, Salvation Army, and most of all, enjoying family. The absolute highlight of Edith's life was the arrival of her 2 grandchildren, Avery 7 and Chloe 5. They filled her life with so much laughter, joy and purpose. She was always ready at the drop of a hat to take care of her girls. They made her life complete. Family was everything to Edith, she was the most compassionate loving grandmother, mother, sister, daughter and friend anyone could have asked for. To others her life may have appeared to have many challenges, but Edith always focused on the positive, the many small things she was grateful for... a roof over her head, good food, the beauty of nature, and the love of family and friends.

Edith was predeceased by her parents Bob and Pearl Foster, and in 2014, the love of her life, her husband George. She is survived by her loving sons Colin, and Neil (wife Kathryn Goth), the grandchildren who adored her, Avery and Chloe, her brother Edwin Foster (Shelley and Tony), sisters Denise Noel and husband Allan, (Michelle and Jennifer), Elaine Foster-Seargeant and husband Brian (Megan, Bram, Olivia), and her brother in law Bill Sproule and wife Val.

A celebration of Edith's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1st, 2016 in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 21 N. Court Street with Jim Heyder officiating. A reception will follow in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers , donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
