Obituary for Jennie Zurba

Jennie (Chomniak) Zurba
April 21, 1920 - January 21, 2014

Jennie Zurba, in her 93rd year passed away, peacefully, on January 21, 2014 at Pioneer Ridge, with her family by her side. Jennie was born in Kulish, Manitoba and at an early age, moved with her family, to "Port Arthur" settling in the Current River area. Mom's life was a difficult and challenging one but she always worked diligently and was proud of her accomplishments.
Mom married Michael Zurba in 1936, at the tender age of "sweet sixteen" and together they struggled to endure life's continuous challenges. While dad worked at Federal Elevator, mom proudly worked as a "gentleman" farmer on the ten acres of land on the corner of Oliver Road and Golf Links Road. Here they raised their three children and finally in 1963, they moved into the city on Duke Street. Mom, generously treated her neighbours and visitors to her pyrogies and vegetables from her ever so proud and fruitful garden.
Jennie was predeceased by her husband, in 1977, and son Edward in 2007, three brothers Walter, Nicholas and Morris.
Left to mourn, are her daughters Mary Ann (Wilf) Chubak and Janet Niedbala, grandchildren: Diane Niedbala, Donna (Dale) Sprickerhoff and Barbara Niedbala, four great-grandchildren, her greates joys and hope for the future: Kendal, Samara, Guage and Halle. She is also survived by her brother Oles (Jackie), sister Doris Blahut and sister-in-law Betty Chomniak. Cousins, nieces, nephews also survive.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the family plot in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the Helping Hands Auxiliary to Pioneer Ridge or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
