Obituary for Joyce Mary Langila

Joyce Mary Langila (Humby)

The family of Joyce Langila sadly announce her passing at home on Friday June 17, 2016. She settled in for a night of sleep, and passed away peacefully. Joyce was born on April 27, 1930 to parents Cecil and Eva Humby, was baptized at St. John's Anglican Church, and grew up on Machar Avenue. Joyce married the love of her life Sam, on June 7, 1952 at St. John's, which was also the church her parents were married in. Joyce and Sam shared 63 happy years together.

Joyce (we called her Nani) lived her life by the motto "J.O.Y."; Jesus, Others, Yourself. She believed this was the correct order for life, and if you followed it, you would have JOY. Family was most important to Nani and she never missed the events in our lives, big or small, even with 3 children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She was always available to listen and offer perspective and support. Nani was the kind of woman who lived each day with enthusiasm and optimism - and if today didn't go perfectly, there was always tomorrow.

Nani was the centre of our world and everything revolved around her. Her passing has left a large hole in our lives but her spirit will live on in all of us forever.

Joyce was an active member of the community all her life. She was always on-the-go, socializing with friends, crafting with the craft group at St. John's, attending concerts and plays, and going to exercise classes. She spent many happy hours at East Loon, the camp her parents built when she was a teen. During challenging times she would head for the bush to contemplate life and recharge. Joyce had many lifelong friendships. Her group of friends the Motley Crew spent many special times together and were an important part of her life for several decades. Her special relationship with Anita McDowell spanned 65 years. Joyce was a faithful and active member of St. John's Anglican Church serving in various capacities over the years.

Lovingly remembered by her daughters Shelley Siedlikowski (Stan), Cheryl Mrowiec (Jack Hansen) and Mary Dohan (Mike Dixon), all of Thunder Bay; grandchildren, Laura Suddaby (Ryan), Brendan Mrowiec (Emese Boyko), Christopher Dohan (Crissy Laurin), Justin Dohan (Missy) of Calgary, Adam Siedlikowski, Kathleen Kreps (Dieter), Meghan Mrowiec (Charlie Sloan), Nicholas Dohan, and Graham (Dohan) Margarit, great grandchildren Teanna Siedlikowski Wilson, Nicolai Charlton, and Avery Dohan. Also survived by her brother Brian Humby (Aila), and sister in law Irene Humby, in laws Eileen Francis, William and Jeanette Langila, Larry Margarit, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Sam, brother George Humby, her parents Eva and Cecil Humby, in laws Fern and Herman Langila, son in law Peter Mrowiec, grandson Jordan Mrowiec, brother in law Allan Francis, and nephews Bill Langila and David Langila.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 29th, at 11 am, at St. John's Anglican Church, 226 Pearl Street. Following the service, the family will receive friends in St. John's Parish Hall. Interment with family will be at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association, or the charity of your choice.
