Obituary for Vera May Hanbury

It is with great sadness that the family of Vera May Hanbury announces her peaceful passing at Pioneer Ridge, with family by her side, on Wednesday, March 12th, aged 96 years.

Vera was born on December 6th, 1917, in Port Arthur to parents Charlie and Mabel Lepper. She was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. On September 30th, 1944 she married the love of her life, George Ferguson Hanbury. Together they raised two children, Les and Donna, to whom she devoted her life.

She started her working career at Eaton's Department Store as a teenager and continued to work there until her retirement. Over her lifetime Vera made many close friends, all of whom she cherished dearly.

In their retirement George and Vera were able to travel extensively, visiting many points of interest in Canada and the United States.

Vera will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by son Les Hanbury (Sue), daughter Donna Langen (Ken); grandchildren Robin Hanbury (Anjanie McCarthy), Meghan Hanbury, Katherine Langen, Victoria Langen; great-grandchildren Garnett, Caelan and Isaac Hanbury; sister-in-law Marguerite Lepper. Numerous nieces and cousins also survive.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, George Hanbury; parents Charlie and Mabel Lepper; father and mother-in-law Ferguson and Elsie Hanbury; brother and sister-in-law Harry and Kay Lepper; brother Martin Lepper; sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Roy Banton; newphews Jack, Fred and Roger Banton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Doris and Eric Boegh.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Pastor Dan Repo presiding. The interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Sunday, March 16th from 2-4 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Chapel.

Vera was a supporter of many local and national charities. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arthritis Society or a charity of your choice would be welcomed. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
