Obituary for Geoffrey Trevor Gooding

GOODING- Dr. Geoffrey T. Gooding , MB MRCP FRCP (C), passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 23, 2014. Geoffrey was born in Barbados on Nov. 16, 1935. Educated at Harrison College, he won the Barbados scholarship at age 16. At 17, he entered the Royal London Hospital College in London, England where he met Sheila, and graduated from medicine in 1958, marrying Sheila the same week.

Specializing in internal medicine, Geoffrey moved to Thunder Bay and joined the Port Arthur Clinic. He dedicated his life to his work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Port Arthur General Hospital, and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he worked until April 2014.

He is survived by his wife Sheila, son Paul and daughter Louise (Peter Wainwright), precious granddaughter Sophie, and brother John. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mildred, brother Keith and infant daughter.

Geoffrey always loved Barbados and returned annually to see his extensive family. Despite his Caribbean roots, he loved sled dog racing and his house was always full of Siberian Huskies. An avid bird watcher, he took many birding trips locally and abroad. Spending time at his cottage at Dog Lake with family and friends was a great pleasure for him.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful service shown by CCAC, VON, and Bayshore during the last week.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, the 31st of May at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Archdeacon Deborah Kraft officiating. Donations may be made to the Northern Hearts-Cell Sorter Campaign or the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
