The expression 'the dog days of summer' takes on special meaning for me. On more than one occasion, I had the good fortune to spend some of those days at the Gooding cottage on Dog l;ake. My memories of Dr. Gooding are mostly from time spent there with his son, my good friend, Paul. The Goodings always extended their hospitality to me, both at the cottage and at their home. But, it was at the cottage that I remember him the most. One memory that stands out was a fishing trip we (Dr. Gooding, Paul and myself) took. We travelled up the lake to the Dog River and caught some pickerel. The camaraderie and congeniality between us all was great! We were all joking, enjoying the great summer weather and good fishing.
Dr. Gooding was a kind, intelligent, sociable, affable man who will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege and honour to know him. I am one of those people. My heart goes out to Paul, Louise and Mrs. Gooding, in whose hearts he will live on forever.
