A memorable motorcycle trip with Phil in about 1979

Phil and I were friends in Thunder Bay from about 1975 - 1979. We met at the Lakehead University Residence. In summer of about 1979, we embarked upon a 3 week motorcycle trip from Thunder Bay to Whistler BC and back. Phil rode his brand new 1100 cc Yamaha, me on my 1978 650 Kawasaki. It was a remarkable trip, where Phil's considerable mechanical expertise, (developed over the years on several Honda 750-4s, as I recall) was happily not called into play, but was always reassuring to one less mechanically inclined. Phil's jocular and slightly formal intelligence and easy going manner made him a great traveling companion. At age 24, our trip was a real adventure for me and one of the most memorable of my life. Though we have not stayed in touch over the years, I was saddened to hear of Phil's passing and tell this story in memory of our friendship.
