Obituary for Charles Slater

SLATER, Charles George
(1932-2014)

Mr. Charles George Slater passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospic Unit on September 28, 2014 in his 82nd year.
Charlie was born December 29, 1932 in Port Arthur to parents Mary Kelly (McCrae) and Matthew Robert Slater (both deceased).
Dad worked at the News Chronical and Chronical Journal for 48 years.
As a kid, he enjoyed playing soccer and broomball. He went on to be a soccer referee for 23 years. He also enjoyed dancing and taught square dancing for many years.
Dad had many friends from soccer, dancing and his membership with the Branch #5 Legion.


He was predeceased by his second wife Donalda (Roullette ) in 2007. He leaves behind his 1st wife and mother of their children Margaret(Kohler).

Much loved father of Ian and Barry of Thunder Bay, and Sandra (Michael) McCormick of North Bay. Cherished grandfather to Michael, Sandra, Mary-Kelly and Aaron. Step-father/grandfather to Lori Kruger, husband Mark and children Cash & Chase, Chad Cades, wife Charmaine, children Madison & McKenna all of Thunder Bay. Dear brother to Elizabeth (May ) Lourie (late Norman), late Janet Thur (Ken surviving), late Robert (Sonny) (Marilyn deceased ), Kenneth (Marilyn) and Kathleen Matechuk (George).
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Rev. Lloyd Ivany presiding. A private interment will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Joseph's Hospital would be gratefully appreciated.
